The group that trains dogs to help the blind is offering $5,000 for the safe return of one of its dogs that went missing.
Ondrea is a 14-month-old German Shepherd that was to be trained by the nonprofit Morristown group The Seeing Eye. The dog ran away from her Wantage home on June 24. A volunteer has been raising her until she was old enough to enter training.
“Ondrea saw a critter in the yard she wanted to chase and hit the screen door and it popped open and she ran off,” says Peggy Gibbon with The Seeing Eye.
There have not been any sightings of the dog since she went missing.
“Not knowing where she is is very distressing, to say the least,” says Gibbon. “People have been combing the area, there are posters and flyers everywhere."
The Seeing Eye partners approximately 260 dogs each year with blind individuals. Ondrea is microchipped, had identifying tags on her collar and a tattoo in her right ear.
Anyone who spots Ondrea or has information about where she is located should call The Seeing Eye at 973-525-1084.
