A controversial tweet from the NRA has doctors across the country responding in outrage.
On Nov. 7, the NRA tweeted in response to a medical publication calling for more gun control by suggesting doctors "stay in their lane.”
"It was upsetting to see a group try to create a divide, when what we should be doing is coming together. It was angering because I expected more from people who are trying to advocate for gun safety," says St. Barnabas trauma surgeon Gerard Baltazar.
Dr. Baltazar took to Twitter where his response joined tens of thousands of others to share his reason why physicians should be included in the conversation.
Lateefah Muhammad was shot twice back in February before landing on Dr. Baltazar's operating table.
"Her injuries were quite extensive, and it wasn't clear if she was going to live," says Dr. Baltazar.

After 12 surgeries, Muhammad says she has a message for anyone who doubts whether doctors are qualified to comment on gun control.

"Doctors, they deal with this stuff every single day, so how dare you say for them to stay in their lane," says Muhammad.
News 12 reached out to the National Rifle Association for its take on Dr. Baltazar's perspective, but has not heard back.
