A New Jersey school district is picking up the $60,000 tab for one of its students to attend a specialized school in another county.
The North Hunterdon Voorhees Regional High School District said the vast majority of the money -- $50,000 -- will be used to pay the $275-a-day fee for the seven-passenger bus that will bring the student to the new school. The district said the bus is the cheapest transportation option.
The district said it is paying for the student because it doesn?t offer a comparable program. The student is interested in a performing arts program. The district is required to pay for the student to attend the Morris County School of Technology, in Denville, which has a performing arts program.
Residents in nearby Clinton feel the parents of the student, not the district, should pick up the busing tab. Some say paying for transportation is an undue burden on the taxpayers.
