Delays and cancellations have caused the Long Island Rail Road's performance to take a hit for the past month.

Around Memorial Day, two trains derailed in Speonk and caused slowdowns for days. Delays continued elsewhere in the month of June, when there was switch problem near Mineola and signal problems near New Hyde Park and Ronkonkoma.

On Monday, News 12 spoke with commuters at the Hickville station who didn't seem to be phased by some of the delays.

Gerry Bringmann, vice chairman of the LIRR Commuter Council, says the on-time performance is unacceptable.

LIRR President Philip Eng told Newsday that things have been improving slowly, but infrastructure issues do occur from time to time.

The LIRR considers a train late if it arrives at the station more than six minutes after the posted time. Its on-time numbers for June will come out next month.
