Deadlines approaching to ship gifts on time for Christmas
The deadlines to ship Christmas gifts by mail are quickly approaching and in some cases have already passed.
People all over New Jersey were out at post offices Monday mailing their last minute Christmas gifts to loved ones.
The Wall Township Post Office saw lines out the door Monday afternoon with a wait time of around 30 minutes to mail packages.
The U.S. Postal Service recommends the following mailing and shipping deadlines for expected delivery by Christmas Day.
  • Dec. 19 – First-Class Mail (including greeting cards)
  • Dec. 20 – Priority Mail
  • Dec. 20 – Hawaii to Mainland Priority Mail Express
  • Dec. 20 – Alaska to Mainland Priority Mail and First–Class Mail
  • Dec. 21 – Alaska to Mainland Priority Mail Express
  • Dec. 22 – Priority Mail Express
Monday was the last day for UPS 3-day select shipping. The company says that Dec. 21 will be the last chance for next-day air shipping.
FedEx say that Tuesday is the last day for express saver shipping and that Dec. 21 is the last day to overnight packages.
Delivery companies say that they saw an uptick in packages this holiday season as more people opted to purchase items online instead of in brick-and-mortar stores.
