Authorities say a crane being used to remove a tree at a Mercer County home somehow crashed into the residence, but no injuries have been reported.
Jackie Proszynski says she was home for the holidays when the crane crashed.
"I was making breakfast and I felt my house kind of shake and then I also heard chainsaws. So, I was like, OK, something probably hit my house."
The 63,000-pound tri-axle crane came down shortly after noon Friday in Hamilton, while crews were working in the back yard of the Miry Brook Road home.
"I looked up higher and I'm following this big crane looking down to my neighbors' house and there's this flipped over crane truck, massive things and this gas leak from the car,” Proszynski says.
The residence sustained some damage in the accident, but the extent and severity was not immediately clear. The crane remained on the home for several hours as emergency responders secured the scene and sought to determine the safest way to right the machinery.
Proszynski says her parents are staying in Florida and she says that she wasn’t planning on telling them about the incident right away.
"Then I get a call from my mom and she says, ‘Is everything OK over there?’ And I say, ‘Yeah, did someone tell you something?’ And she says, ‘No. We were watching on the doorbell, and it had a motion sensor detection and we’re seeing a bunch of people looking at the roof of our house,’” Proszynski says.
Proszynski says that her parents’ home had a fire several months ago as well.
“That's why they're nervous about things happening to the house because they just went through a big ordeal,” she says.
Crews ended up bringing in a second crane to act as a counterweight while a third crane hoisted the arm off the house.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
