Corzine ordered to fork over e-mails with former lover
A judge has ordered New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine (D) to turn over more than 700 e-mails between him and his former girlfriend.
The e-mails in question were sent between Corzine and his former lover Carla Katz, leader of the Communications Workers of America Local 1034. Katz's union is the state's largest public employee's union.
The ruling says e-mails exchanged during contract talks in 2006 and 2007 are public records. New Jersey Republican Party Chairman Tom Wilson is calling the ruling a victory.
"If there's nothing to hide, why go to such extraordinary lengths to hide it?" asks Wilson.
The governor and his team insist that he is not hiding anything, but rather defending his privacy.
"We believe that the judge's decision significantly undercuts the longstanding executive privilege in a way that harms the office of the governor and harms the ability of future governors to do their job effectively," says Attorney General Anne Milgram.
Milgram also says the state will appeal.
