Controversy bubbles over charter school in Maplewood
A proposed charter school in Maplewood would feature a kindergarten through second grade Chinese immersion school.
If approved by the state, the school would open with about 100 students in September and would have plans to expand to the fifth grade. The school would draw students from Maplewood, South Orange and West Orange.
The state's acting education commissioner is expected to make a decision later this month. Opponents of the school say that the community should get to decide whether or not to have the charter school, rather than just one person.
