Some good news and bad news for drivers this week.
The good news: some drivers could be getting cash because of an ongoing recall.
The millions of car owners affected by the Takata airbag recall might get some cash to ease their pain. Honda, the car dealer most affected by the recall, has agreed to a $605 million settlement.
Under the proposed settlement, Honda owners could get up to $500, depending on how many people submit claims.
The top priority would be to reimburse customers who rented cars while they waited for parts to arrive. If there's money left over, other customers could then collect for diminished value.
A judge still has to approve the plan.
Now, the bad news: Hurricane Harvey continues to impact gas prices across the country.
“They have been increasing on a daily basis since the hurricane. What we're seeing is increases of 39 cents just in the past week,” Tracy Noble, of AAA, said.
In New Jersey, the cheapest gas as of mid-week could be found at $2.80 per gallon for regular – that’s 40 cents higher than a week ago.
In New York, a gallon of regular gas costs an average of $2.82 per gallon, and the most expensive has in the area is in Connecticut at $2.87 per gallon.
“The prices never come down as quickly as they go up, so it may be another few weeks that we see these inflated prices at the pump,” Noble said.
