Consumer Alert: Self-driving cars and Color Buzz
This week's Consumer Alert looks at issues with self-driving cars, over-the-counter diet products and a group organizing "color runs."
A crash of a self-driving Tesla became the latest in a series of recent accidents involving automated vehicles. Tesla is refusing to disable the autopilot feature, so the Center for Auto Safety and citizens are calling on the Obama administration to stop the production of these self-driving cars until safety issues have been fixed.
The FDA is warning people not to use three over-the-counter diet products: Dream Body Original Formula, Extra Slim Plus Acai Berry Weight Loss Formula and SBF Bee Pollen. All three are marketed as all-natural but the FDA says they have been found to contain Sibutramine, a prescription diet medication that has been banned in the United States since 2010 when research found it caused heart problems.
News 12 told viewers on Thursday that runners in New Jersey were upset with Color Buzz, a company with a history of scheduling 5K runs, canceling them and refusing to give refunds. The most recent run was supposed to happen this weekend in Lakewood. The event was originally scheduled for last summer at Brookedale Community College.
Both events were canceled, and the venues say they never had signed contracts with Color Buzz. Within hours the News 12 story airing, Color Buzz refunded one viewer's money. Color Buzz continues to insist it will give New Jersey customers refunds but only if they give the company one more chance to reschedule event.
