Community Park in Cedar Grove hit by vandals
Cleanup is under way Tuesday after a pool employee at Community Park in Cedar Grove found graffiti across the park?s parking lot.
The park was targeted by vandals over the weekend. Many park workers and locals who frequent the area say that they are taking the vandalism personally. ?We feel personally offended,? Public Works Superintendent Mike Goosman says. ?We treat this like it was our own backyard.?
Steve Paradiso, a resident who likes to take his son on walks through the park, is also upset. ?It?s absolutely senseless,? he says. ?It?s a shame kids don?t have anything better to do than destroy stuff that everyone in the town pays for.?
The vandals also stole the park?s American flag, which was given to the town in 1997 by the local Elks. The flag was intended to honor those who had fallen in the line of duty. Some people believe stealing the flag was the worst offence committed by the vandals.
The flag has been replaced and cleanup has started, but by the time it is completed, hundreds of dollars will have been spent.
Police are still searching for the suspect or suspects. They say the graffiti had a distinct tag, which they?re hoping will make it easy to make an arrest.
