State Attorney General Anne Milgram and Superintendent of State Police Col. Rick Fuentes announced Friday that Plainfield will join other New Jersey cities in Operation Ceasefire.

Plainfield residents say they are tired of the gun violence in their area. That is why they say they are happy to be part of Operation Ceasefire. Those who created the program say the focus is to stop the next shooting.

Law enforcement officials and prosecutors work together with the community to train outreach workers and create public awareness about gun violence. The goal is to eventually rid the community of violence altogether.

Milgram and Fuentes say the key to Operation Ceasefire in any city is community involvement.

Other cities involved in the campaign include Newark, Elizabeth, New Brunswick, Paterson and Trenton.
