Mantoloking and Belmar are two coastal communities working hard to repair the devastating damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.

Since the 2012 storm, homes and boardwalks have been rebuilt. The Fifth Avenue Taylor Pavilion, a controversial project that narrowly passed a 2015 vote, is scheduled to open in time for next summer.

In Mantoloking, residents still have a long way to go. The sounds of hammering and sawing fill the air around the clock as construction continues.

Officials say around 55 structures were completely destroyed the night the storm impact the region. They say some structures were submerged under 18 inches to 2 feet of water.

"As much as we don't like to hear the hammers and nails going on, we like to see people get back in their homes and that's what is going on," says councilmember Chris Nelson. "We're really happy about that."

In Ocean County, construction has already begun to rebuild much of the beachfront property.
