Clever Commute offers Memorial Day weekend getaway tips
Many drivers like to get on the roads early to avoid holiday traffic, but research by traffic app Clever Commute has found that leaving early may not always be the best scenario.
The app found that the busiest hours on a "getaway Friday" are typically between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Traveling during normal rush hour, 4-6 p.m., may actually be a better time to leave.
Clever Commute founder Joshua Crandall always says that when traveling by rail, it may be better to leave a few days early. He says that lines to buy train tickets on Fridays are typically very long.
Crandall also says that travelers should check for schedule changes, and suggests dressing comfortably and in layers while traveling.
Thousands of New Jersey residents are expected to travel during this Memorial Day weekend.
