A new city initiative is making things easier for bus riders in Borough Park.

Countdown clocks were added to some bus stops in the city to give commuters a more accurate time of when the next bus will arrive.

Bus riders who spoke to News 12 were skeptical at first but once their bus came a few seconds after the countdown clock went off, they changed their tune.

"I'll take it," said bus rider David Wong. "Pretty good accuracy, close enough."

The Department of Transportation installed the countdown clocks at the B9 bus stop in November. There are two on 60th Street and 16th Avenue in Borough Park.

District manager of Community Board 12, Barry Spitzer, says the new initiative also seeks to keep riders safe while waiting for the bus.

"I always see people going into the street looking down to see if the bus is coming," Spitzer says. "I have seen that a lot and I have seen times that accidents almost happen."

Spitzer says he hopes the countdown clocks will prevent potential accidents in the borough.
