Cherry Hill police the latest to launch body camera program
Police in Cherry Hill have joined a growing number of law enforcement agencies across New Jersey in launching a body camera program for all of its officers.
All of the town's 129 sworn officers have been wearing the cameras since earlier this month.
Chief William Monaghan says the move will help improve public safety by enhancing transparency and accountability.
The program had been in development for two years. A contract was awarded in August for the Taser Axon 2 camera model, which each officer will wear on their chest during their day-to-day routine.
Monaghan says the department is on its second generation of in-car cameras and police officials felt that the body cameras were a natural progression.
