A play depicting the life of actress Judy Garland opened at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn.

"Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz" focuses on Garland's childhood when she was still known by her real name, Frances Gumm.

Actress Ruby Rakos of Millington portrays the young Garland.

"Because the show is about Frances Gumm, the girl who became Judy Garland, I think that takes the pressure off of trying to be her. Because we don't know Frances. But we know Judy,” Rakos says.

This is the 80th anniversary of “The Wizard of Oz,” the movie that made Garland famous.

"Chasing Rainbows: The Road to Oz" runs through Oct. 27.
