Paterson City Hall was closed on Tuesday because of a burst water pipe.
Employees showed up for work Tuesday morning to find 6 feet of water in the building’s basement.
Mayor Andre Sayegh says the flooding was caused by a water main break.
“The pipe burst. Our electrical system was compromised. We are working to drain the water out of the basement," said Sayegh.
It was not immediately known why the pipe broke or how long it will take to repair the damage.
