A pizza shop owner who was known for giving back to the Bronx community has died.
Customers say they felt like family at John and Joe's Pizza in Pelham Parkway. Candles were placed outside the shop along with notes, sharing kind words and appreciation.
Joe Chiodi served what customers say was the best slice of pizza on the block. "He was the best he was such a nice person. My children grew up here the only place they liked is over here," said a customer.
The store was closed Thursday, and it is unclear when it will be open again. Councilman Mark Gjonaj says he will seek to rename the street after Chiodi.
Gjonaj says Chiodi has become a staple in the community and will be remembered by everyone forever.
