Bridge-Gate witness: Gov. Christie left expletive filled message on freeholder’s phone
A former Christie administration staffer testified Wednesday that Gov. Chris Christie once left a profanity-filled message on a Monmouth County freeholder's phone.
Ex-staffer Chris Stark says that it was his job to assist mayors across New Jersey, until they did something that got them blacklisted by the Christie administration. Stark gave one example involving Republican Monmouth County freeholder John Curley.
Curley has apparently called Gov. Christie's office to complain about Superstorm Sandy. Stark testified that the governor called Curley and said, "Who the f*** do you think you are calling me a fat f***? I'm the f****** governor of this state, if you're not behind me at the podium in Keansburg tomorrow, I will f****** destroy you."
The governor allegedly went on to say that he would destroy Curley with thousands of "robocalls."
Curley tells News 12 New Jersey that the governor did leave him such a call. He admitted to calling Gov. Christie names in a phone call, but says he later apologized.
Prosecutors say Curley wasn't the only person who was cut off by the Christie administration. They say defendants Bridget Kelly and Bill Baroni blacklisted the mayor of Fort Lee for failing to endorse Gov. Christie's re-election campaign. They say the pair conspired to block Fort Lee's access lanes to the George Washington Bridge in an effort to cause gridlock in the town.
Star Bridge-Gate witness David Wildstein also wrapped his testimony Wednesday. The former Port Authority official pleaded guilty to the scandal in a plea deal that involved testifying against Kelly and Baroni.
