(02/01/06) MIDDLETOWN ? The Middletown Board of Education decided Tuesday night to suspend Superintendent David Witmer for 120 days without pay.

Parents in the district want to know the reasoning behind the suspension, but board members remain tight-lipped about their decision. Many parents say they have a right to know about any decision affecting their children. However, others feel the suspension may stem from a personal matter that should be kept private.

Witmer was appointed superintendent in 2003. His annual salary is approximately $157,000 per year.
