New Jersey motorists may soon have one more thing to add to the list of devices they can?t use behind the wheel.
The use of GPS devices has become increasingly popular. However, New Jersey Assemblyman Harvey Smith says too many drivers are programming them instead of keeping their eyes on the road.
Smith, a former drivers education instructor, wrote a bill that makes programming a navigation device while driving a primary offense. If passed, drivers would face the same penalty attached to using a hand-held phone or text messaging.
Smith says he hopes the bill will be passed into law by the fall.
