One organization in Bed-Stuy is helping Puerto Rico after Isaias hit the island.
"We don't know what to expect. So I don't only really worry about my family, but I'm worried about everyone in Puerto Rico," says Sonia Velasquez.
She turned her worry into action when she founded the "Your Network Caring Community Advocate" organization during Hurricane Maria.
The group filled up 100 boxes with diapers, insulin, crutches and other supplies that are going out to Puerto Rico's storm victims.
"Back in March, we were ready to go with medical supplies and also a medical team from people that were still trying to recover from Hurricane Maria," Velasquez explains.
Due to the pandemic, the boxes have not been shipped out. With the harsh storm the island faced a few days ago, they say the donations will help.
"The devastation I've seen is very similar to what happened with Hurricane Maria, it's just in a different pocket at a different time," volunteer Darma Diaz says.
Other members of the organization say they take pride knowing they can help someone in need.
"We are very proud of what we do because we do it to not only gain an effect, but we do it for the work of the Lord," says Pastor Hector Cruz, another volunteer.
The organization says they are elated to receive many donations over the past few months. They will now focus on finding a way to ship the supplies in a safe way.
