One firefighter was injured and eight people were displaced after a fire erupted Sunday night at a two-family home in Bayonne.

The fire happened on 23 E. 44th St. just after 8:30 p.m. According to the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management, the fire extended into a neighboring one-family home.

Officials say all residents were safely evacuated. The injured firefighter was taken to a local hospital and later released.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire but say it appears nonsuspicious.
