A school supplies giveaway was held on Sunday at Mercy Church of God in Bergenfield.

Students this year were able to send in a list of items they needed and pick it up at the church.

Church attendee Nikki Frias, 16, spent the money she made during her summer job to purchase the supplies along with donations from the church and family.

"I realized that a lot of the other backpack drives didn't ask kids what they needed for school or supplies that they thought they would need. So, I made mine to ask the kids what they needed for school and give them those supplies,” she said.

Frias told News 12 that this is her seventh year doing the giveaway and was able help 96 students with the event.
