An autopsy on a 3-year-old Camden County boy who was found dead three hours after he was reported missing is inconclusive, according to investigators.
Camden County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Andy McNeil said Wednesday that the cause and manner of Brendan Creato's death were undetermined and results are pending.
Brendan's father, D.J. Creato, called 911 at around 6 a.m. Tuesday when he first discovered the boy was missing from his Haddon Township apartment. Friends and neighbors frantically began to search, along with police.
Brendan's body was found three hours later, just before 9 a.m. by a police dog about a half-mile from the apartment in the woods. He was still wearing his red pajamas his father reported he was wearing.
Brendan Creato's mother, Samantha Denoto, released the following statement Wednesday.
"We are heartbroken by the loss of our beautiful boy Brendan Creato," said Denoto. "Along with the Creato family, who also lost a son and grandson, we are grieving and tremendously saddened."
She thanked the people who searched for Creato and those who gathered at a vigil in his memory. About 100 people attended it, praying and singing.
A GoFundMe page is collecting donations for the little boy's funeral. So far, it's collected thousands of dollars.
Police are not releasing information about the types of injuries the boy may have suffered or exactly how he died.
