A New Jersey Transit bus driver has been arrested, accused of hitting and killing a man while behind the wheel of her bus.
According to authorities, Fayola Howard, 34, of Bloomfield, was arrested Tuesday while trying to board a plane at Newark Liberty International Airport. She has been charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of the accident involving an injured person.
Prosecutors say Howard struck and killed Kevin Thomas, 55, back on Dec. 31, 2019 in Newark, and then left the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates Thomas was dragged by the bus. He subsequently died from his injuries on Jan. 6. The bus was traveling southbound on Sanford Avenue approaching Mt. Vernon Place in Newark at the time of the accident.
