Two people are dead in an apparent double homicide in Maplewood, authorities say.

Maplewood police responded to the area of Walton Road and Jefferson Avenue shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday after a report of a woman being assaulted.

Officers located an injured woman lying in the street. That victim was transported to Beth Israel Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Officers then found an unresponsive male on the 400 block of Walton Road. That man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the victims is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Residents tell News 12 the victims were a female au pair and her male employer.

An autopsy is being done to determine the cause of the victims' death. There is still no word on any suspects.
