The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office has released the identities of a family of three that was killed in an apartment fire in Hillsborough earlier this week.

The family was identified as Vinod Damodaran, 44; Sreeja Thekkekoical-Sasi, 38; and Aardra Nair, 13. Officials say they were a husband, wife and daughter.

The fire at the Hillsborough Garden Apartments broke out around 10 p.m. Monday. Witnesses told News 12 New Jersey at the time that the fire spread very quickly.

The victims were found in their upstairs corner apartment. Firefighters were not able to get to them until the fire was put out. The prosecutor says that the victim's remains were identified using dental records.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
