Authorities identify 7-year-old boy killed in Newark house fire

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has identified a 7-year-old boy killed in a house fire in Newark early Thursday morning.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has identified a 7-year-old boy killed in a house fire in Newark early Thursday morning.
The boy was identified as Sahir Hartfield. Authorities say that the fire started inside 65 Astor St. around 4:45 a.m. The fire spread to the two adjacent buildings.
The boy’s body was found on the third floor of the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the prosecutor.
Authorities say that three other children, ages 1, 5 and 11 escaped, along with two adults.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
