Firefighters have rescued a Newark man from a burning building, who was then promptly charged for allegedly setting the fire.
Newark police say that firefighters were called to a home on Abinger Place around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a fire. The fire quickly spread around the house, requiring more than 80 firefighters to get it under control.
Police say that firefighters rescued 24-year-old Stephen M. Jones who was seen running on the roof of the building. He was then arrested, according to police.
Jones and a firefighter were taken to University Hospital to be treated for burns. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities say that the fire displaced four adults and a child.
