Attorneys for accused NJ/NY bomber enter not guilty plea related to shootout with Linden police
Defense attorneys representing bombing suspect Ahmad Rahimi entered not guilty pleas on state charges related to his shootout with Linden police officers.
It happened during his capture for bombings in Seaside Heights, Elizabeth and Manhattan.
Rahimi has already entered not guilty pleas on five attempted murder charges and two related weapons charges from the shootout back in September.
The FBI was searching his family's apartment in Elizabeth when a Linden bar owner told authorities that a man was sleeping on his steps. It turned out to be Rahimi.
Two Linden officers were hurt during the exchange of gunfire as they tried to apprehend him for the bombings.
Rahimi is also facing eight terrorism-related charges for the bombing that hurt 29 people in New York City. He's also accused of planting explosives that went off right before the Semper Five Run in Seaside Park, and explosives found in a trash can in Elizabeth. He pleaded not guilty to those charges.
Rahimi was not at a court hearing for his case held Monday in Manhattan federal court, as the defense says it will need more time to review all of the evidence before it is ready for trial next year.
Prosecutors asked the judge for a speedy trial, since there are pending charges in New Jersey that can't be addressed until the end of the federal trial.
