Atlantic City cancels Florida Georgia Line, blink-182 concerts due to Hermine
The Florida Georgia Line and blink-182 concerts scheduled for Labor Day Weekend at the Atlantic City Beach have been canceled, according to a statement from Mayor Don Guardian.
"Due to the significance of the approaching Tropical Storm Hermine, and out of an abundance of caution for concert goers, staff, the bands, and everyone else involved, we have decided to cancel this weekend's beach concerts," the mayor said in a statement. "Given the extreme weather conditions predicted for the beach this weekend, we were left with no other choice."
The country band Florida Georgia Line was scheduled to play Saturday, Sept. 3. Punk rock band blink-182 was scheduled to perform Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 5.
Refunds for the concert can be obtained at the point of purchase.
Tropical Storm Hermine made landfall in Florida early Friday morning. The storm could potentially lead to significant beach erosion in New Jersey due to heavy winds and strong storm surges.
Mayor Guardian stressed that although the concerts were canceled, Atlantic City's casinos and restaurants would remain open.
"If you want to come on down to Atlantic City early Saturday and ride out the storm inside one of our luxurious casinos or hotels, there will be no better place to be this Labor Day weekend," the statement said.
The resort city has been struggling in recent months. Several of the casinos have closed and the city itself nearly filed for bankruptcy.
