Asbury Park sees strong kickoff to summer

Garbage cans are overflowing and there are signs everywhere of a very busy weekend.

ASBURY PARK - Memorial Day weekends marks the beginning of the Shore's busy season, and many Asbury Park businesses had a strong kickoff to summer.

Cleanup crews are busy this morning sweeping the floors at McLoone's Asbury Grill and mopping them down at Langosta Lounge. Garbage cans are overflowing and there are signs everywhere of a very busy weekend.

Businesses blame last year’s holiday weekend getting off to a wet start along with Sandy recovery for a sluggish tourism season. Several business owners say they were down 30 percent in sales. Many hope this weekend’s packed boardwalks are a sign of good things to come.
