Travelers might want to leave sooner than you think for your Thanksgiving meal. 
The Port Authority says nearly 5 million air passengers and vehicles are expected to use its airports and crossings from Wednesday through Sunday. 
The Port Authority expects about 1.4 million air passengers to use the agency’s airports from Wednesday to Sunday. The Port Authority estimates 3.5 million vehicles will use its bridges and tunnels Wednesday to Sunday, which would be similar to 2019, before the pandemic. 
Lorraine Ciandella is heading to Kansas City to spend Thanksgiving with her daughter – and she’s not alone. 
“So far, excellent,” says Ciandella, of Totowa. “Beautiful weather, nice people and hopefully on time and everything is going to be good.”
At Newark Liberty International Airport, United is expecting more than 710,000 passengers during the Thanksgiving travel period. In 2019, the airline had about 720,000 customers. 
United predicts Sunday, Nov. 28 will be the busiest travel day since before the pandemic, expecting around 450,000 customers.
