Are we there yet? Some parents are bound to hear those words uttered at least once this season if they are traveling with children. Some experienced parents offered tips to new parents traveling with little ones this year.
Martha Torres, of Elizabeth, is a mother of five and grandmother of 11. Wil Alicea, of Rahway, is a father of two young boys. Both know traveling with kids can get hairy. The first thing they suggest is getting a lightweight stroller to push kids around in, instead of carrying them. They add that the tighter a stroller folds, the better it will be for fitting into cars and overhead storage compartments on planes.
While Torres suggests bringing a car seat on a plane, Alicea suggests having a child sit on a parent?s lap if they are small enough.
Tops on the list of suggestions by both parents is the inclusion of items to keep children busy. For infants, rattles and small toys are suggested. For toddlers, coloring and activity books usually do the trick. When it comes to older kids, parents and toy experts say video games are the best option.
Those parents who need to bring formula and milk for children on planes should know that the Transportation Security Administration allows them in reasonable quantities. However, all liquids must be inspected by security guards.
