A yearlong labor dispute between the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the transit union ended Friday.
An arbitrator imposed a contract to end the dispute that led to a 60-hour transit strike during the height of the holiday season last year. Both the MTA and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100 agreed the decision was a triumph.
The announcement comes on the same day members of the transit union voted on whether TWU President Robert Toussaint should remain in charge. Toussaint faced five challengers, who criticized his leadership during the strike.
