Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas set sail from Bayonne Monday afternoon after being delayed by a coronavirus scare.
Passengers were able to board the ship on Sunday. The shortened cruise was originally set to sail to the Bahamas with a stop in Florida, but will head to Bermuda instead.
The ship docked in Bayonne last week and a group of passengers was screened for the coronavirus after it was learned that they had recently traveled to China. Four passengers were taken to the hospital for additional screening. All tests came back negative for the virus.
But despite the delays and virus concerns, passengers tell News 12 New Jersey that they were excited about departing on the ship.
"When I decided that we're not going because it was going to depart on Monday, I was really angry. But then today, even mulling it over…we decided, ‘You know something? Let's live on the edge,’ and we are now excited,” said Larry Fields of Old Bridge.
Royal Caribbean posted on its website that the company allowed people to board the ship Sunday after finding out on Saturday night that the coronavirus tests came back negative.
Editor's Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the ship was heading to the Bahamas.
