Hundreds of airport union workers rallied for better wages and benefits outside Newark Liberty International Airport Monday.

The workers were joined by Sen. Cory Booker and other elected officials.

The vice president of the union says that baggage carriers and wheelchair attendants deserve a living wage. He says that the workers are paid $10 to $20 an hour but do not receive any benefits or holidays off.

“There are 10,000 of them here in Newark and 30,000 more in New York who work at the airport, struggling to get by every single day,” says vice president Kevin Brown. “That’s what [Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.] stood for and that’s what we are here for today.”

Union leaders say that they have been asking for better benefits and increased pay for four years.
