AAA is advising drivers to check if their vehicle has a potentially deadly flaw.

About 42 million cars on the road today have a potentially dangerous airbag. Toyota and Honda recently added 1 million vehicles to that list.

The airbags were all manufactured by Takata, which has made air bag inflators for dozens of car manufacturers.

The automakers say that when some potentially dangerous airbags go off, they could send shrapnel into the occupant's face or their body, causing injury or even death.

Safercar.gov is a national database of vehicle identification numbers, or VINs, of cars that are being recalled. AAA says everyone should check their VINs.

"There might be Takata airbag recalls, there might be other recalls that you may want to take care of. Knowledge is power. You want to know everything about your car. You want to take it to your mechanic or dealer and make sure it gets repaired,” says Alec Slatky, of AAA Northeast.
