Five Hispanic police officers in Hoboken filed a discrimination lawsuit Wednesday against a lieutenant and the city of Hoboken.

In the 18-page suit, the officers claim they had to deal with constant racism from their superior officer Lieutenant Angelo Andriani. The officers serve on the department?s auto theft task force. They say Andriani subjected them to a constant barrage of racist slurs and offensive conduct they say was motivated by racial hatred.

The lawsuit claims Andriani made the officers do personal chores at his home. It also states that Andriani said he hated African-Americans and used phrases such as ?the white race was superior to other races.?

During a news conference, the officers displayed pictures from a trip to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. The officers say the pictures show Andriani displaying some of his racism.

The officers claim their complaints fell on deaf ears, which is what prompted the lawsuit. They say they told Police Chief Dr. Carmen LaBruno about the problems, but the chief let it slide.

The city attorney said city officials are reviewing the lawsuit and will have an appropriate response through the legal process.
