Two people are dead and a third is wounded following two separate shootings Thanksgiving night in Newark, according to a press release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino said the first shooting happened just after 8 p.m. in the area of 400 South Orange Ave. Officers found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and were taken to University Hospital.
The prosecutor’s office said one of the men, identified as 46-year-old Terrance Harris, of Newark, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second man, who was not identified, was expected to survive, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly.
The second shooting happened just before 11 p.m. in the 300 block of South 20th Street.
Police said 40-year-old Sharie Henry, of Newark, was shot and killed during a carjacking. Her 2005 Kia Sorrento was stolen but has since been recovered.
Newark police said they located her vehicle Friday and apprehended two adult and a 15-year-old who were inside the car when it was found. Authorities said it is not yet known if they are connected to Henry's death.
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the Essex County Homicide Task Force at 1-877-847-7432
