The Elizabeth Police Department is investigating after a person was struck by a car on South Jersey Street just off Chilton Street.
Witnesses tell News 12 New Jersey that the victim was a 10-year-old boy. The child was apparently trying to cross the street Monday afternoon when he was struck by a white Dodge SUV.
Witnesses also say that the boy was wearing his school uniform and apparently lives at the apartment complex nearby. The witnesses say he was taken away in an ambulance.
Elizabeth police have not confirmed if the driver of the SUV stopped or tried to flee the scene. The boy's condition was not available.
