Officials: 1 man dead; 2 injured in Newark car crash on US 1-9

Officials say the driver of one car, Cheikh Faye of Weehawken, was pronounced dead on the scene.

One man died and two people were injured in a car crash Sunday in Newark, according to officials.
The crash happened around 4 a.m. near McClellan Street on U.S. Route 1/9. Officials say the driver of one car, Cheikh Faye, 35, of Weehawken was pronounced dead on the scene.
A passenger in that car was transported to University Hospital and listed in critical condition, according to officials. They say a driver of the second car was transported to Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth and treated for nonfatal injuries.
