Police say they were called to a marsh in Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic County after a fisherman thought he found the body of a child. Turns out, it was a life-like doll wrapped inside a blanket.
Authorities say they responded to the area of Ocean Drive off of Longport Boulevard. Major crimes from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office responded along with members of the New Jersey State Police to assist.
According to police, the incident was treated as a homicide investigation until it was determined that the object, originally believed to be a human wrapped inside a blanket and duct tape, was in fact a silicone anatomically correct doll.
“Police will continue to investigate who may have discarded this lifelike doll, and why they chose to do so in a way that wasted valuable resources while it was investigated,” Egg Harbor Township police wrote in a social media post.
