A former gas attendant at a Wawa in Monmouth County is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from customers.
In August 2023, prosecutors say Patrick Brown, 48, used a device attached to his personal phone to swipe customers' credit or debit cards at the Wawa on Route 9 north, funneling hundreds of dollars at a time into his own bank account before using the card to pay for the legitimate orders of gasoline.
Brown, of Newark, was charged a week after the crime happened and is now facing a 52-count indictment. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 6 in Monmouth County Superior Court.
Brown was charged with 13 counts each of third-degree credit card fraud, third-degree false uttering, third-degree theft and fourth-degree credit card theft.
Anyone with information about Brown's activities or anyone who believes they may have been a victim is asked to contact Sgt. Foley at 732-252-1950 or sfoley@twp.freehold.nj.us.
